USA vs. Brazil expected lineups, starting 11, team news: Pulisic, Vinicius Jr. to start in Copa America warmup match | Sporting News India

Must read

The United States men’s national team will look to bounce back from their disappointing showing over the weekend when they face another CONMEBOL powerhouse in Brazil on Wednesday, with the Allstate Continental Clásico serving as both nations’ final tune-up friendly before Copa América 2024.

There will certainly be pressure on Gregg Berhalter’s side to perform at the tournament in front of their home fans, but their preparation isn’t going as planned.

The US were abysmal at both ends of the pitch in their 5-1 loss to FIFA No. 11-ranked Colombia on Saturday. And while Berhalter’s will want his side to respond strongly in their next game, they are up against five-time world champions Brazil.

After ending 2023 in miserable fashion with three straight losses in their 2026 World Cup qualification campaign, Brazil have since made an unbeaten start to 2024 under new head coach Dorival Junior, who has picked up two wins and one draw from his opening three games in charge.

They will come into this contest off the back of winning a five-goal thriller 3-2 against Mexico at Kyle Field in Texas last Saturday, with 17-year-old attacking sensation Endrick once against strealing the headlines with a stoppage time winner.

USA vs. Brazil predicted lineups, starting 11, team news

USA boss Gregg Berhalter deployed a starting lineup made up of Europe-based players against Colombia and despite the disappointing result, he is set to pick another similarly strong XI on Wednesday.

Celtic defender Cameron Carter-Vickers could be reinstated in central defence alongside Fulham’s Tim Ream, with Crystal Palace’s Chris Richards making way. Tyler Adams, who is coming off a frustrating injury-plagued 2023/24 season at Bournemouth, will hope to see some action as he looks to get his match sharpness back in order. He could replace Johnny Cardoso in midfield.

Christian Pulisic is set to continue on the left wing, while Haji Wright, Ricardo Pepi, Folarin Balogun, Timothy Weah, and Brendan Aaronson are among the attackers battling it out for the other two slots up front.

USA projected starting lineup (4-3-3): Turner (GK) — Scully, Carter-Vickers, Ream, A. Robinson — McKennie, Adams, Reyna — Weah, Balogun, Pulisic.

Injured: Sergino Dest (unknown)
Suspended: None

Brazil head coach Dorival Junior will make changes from the side that started the clash with Mexico, including the likely introduction of Real Madrid duo Vinicius Jr. and Rodrygo upfront.

Bruno Guimaraes, Andreas Pereira and Lucas Paqueta could be the Premier League representatives alongside Alisson, who will feature between the sticks, as Ederson is unavailable for selection due to an eye injury.

Raphinha is also expected to be given the nod in attack, with 17-year-old Endrick set to earn his sixth cap for Brazil off the bench despite scoring decisively against Mexico after coming on as a sub.

Brazil projected starting lineup (4-3-3): Alisson (GK) — Danilo, Militao, Gabriel, Arana — Pereira, Guimaraes, Paqueta — Rodrygo, Evanilson, Vinicius Jr.

Injured: Ederson (eye)
Suspended: None
