The 2024 ICC T20 World Cup hosts, USA have been playing in a major cricketing tournament for the first time in its history, let alone hosting it. After an impressive win against a relatively weak team, Canada in the opening game of the T20 World Cup, USA were up against the mighty Pakistan, runners-up from the previous edition of the tournament.

Entering the game, USA knew that they were the underdog team considering Pakistan’s rich cricketing history and the kind of players that they possess. But to everyone’s surprise, the USA managed to stun the Pakistanis at the Grand Prairie Stadium in Dallas, Texas.

After restricting the Pakistanis to an average total of 159 runs in 20 overs, USA came out requiring 160 runs to win. Skipper Monank Patel’s blistering half century and fireworks from main man Aaron Jones and Nitish Kumar in the death overs, resulted in USA leveling Pakistan’s score of 159 runs in their 20 overs.

In the Super Over, Pakistan failed to chase USA’s target of 19 runs and could only manage 13 runs at the loss of one wicket. USA had managed to do the impossible against a full member of the ICC.

Starman Aaron Jones recently joined a podcast with Club Prairie with two cricketing legends in Adam Gilchrist and Michael Vaughan already present. In the podcast, Jones revealed how happy they were about the win against Pakistan and how they went about it during the celebrations.

It was a big celebration in the dressing room – Aaron Jones

Jones revealed that they already knew before the game that they were the underdogs but definitely wanted to show the World that the United States has good cricketers that can play at the highest level.

I think we had a great fight in all key aspects of the game, batting, bowling, fielding and eventually we came out on top. It’s actually unbelievable, really and truly and to actually even come here and talk about the whole experience. We did have a bit of a celebration in the dressing room with some music, some fun and eventually we went back to our hotel

USA will now be up against the Indians in their upcoming game of the tournament. Both teams have won two out of two games in the T20 World Cup so far, and have defeated Pakistan in their most recent clashes. Only time could tell if USA can repeat what they did in Dallas against Pakistan, not to forget India are a completely different ball game than Pakistan.
