KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • India will face the USA in the T20 World Cup 2024 match on June 12.
  • The match is scheduled to take place at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York.
  • Both India and the USA have won two matches in the T20 World Cup 2024.

After winning the first two Group A matches against Ireland and Pakistan by 8 wickets and 6 runs in New York on June 5 and 9, respectively, world No. 1 T20I team India will face co-hosts the USA in their third league stage match of the ongoing T20 World Cup 2024 on Wednesday (June 12). The first-ever T20I match between India and the USA is scheduled to take place at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium in New York. Both India and the USA have won two matches played so far in the ongoing tournament, and the winner of Wednesday’s match will become the first team to qualify for the Super 8s from Group A. If the match between India and the USA gets washed out due to rain, then Pakistan will get knocked out of the tournament from the group stage itself because, in that case, they can’t match India and the USA’s points tally.

After playing with the same line-up in the first couple of matches, India could make one change in the playing XI for the game against the United States and include one out of Sanju Samson or Yashasvi Jaiswal in place of Shivam Dube. Dube has been out of form with the bat for quite some time now, and he wasn’t used as a bowler by Rohit Sharma in the first two matches. In his place, India can include a specialist batter.

Jaiswal is most likely to get a chance in the XI as he is a specialist opener, which will allow Virat Kohli to return to his usual No. 3 position. Kohli opened for India in the first two matches but was only able to score 1 and 4 runs. The Indian team management would like to bring Virat back to his usual position, where he has scored a mountain of runs, and let Jaiswal open alongside Rohit. Jaiswal was part of the ICC T20I team of the year 2023 and is an aggressive batter by nature who can take the game away from the opposition in the powerplay itself.

The pacer trio of Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, and Mohammed Siraj has done well for India, along with all-rounders Hardik Pandya and Axar Patel, but the same can’t be said about Ravindra Jadeja. The 35-year-old star cricketer was out for a golden duck against Pakistan and is yet to take a wicket in the ongoing tournament.

But despite his ordinary form, there is very little chance that he will lose his place in the playing XI to make way for Kuldeep Yadav or Yuzvendra Chahal.

India’s likely playing XI for the T20 World Cup 2024 match against the United States: Rohit Sharma (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav, Rishabh Pant (WK), Hardik Pandya, Axar Patel, Ravindra Jadeja, Jasprit Bumrah, Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj
