LeBron James, Stephen Curry lead USA Basketball’s Olympic team roster: Report

The biggest stars in the NBA are among the players listed on the Team USA roster that will compete 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris.

The Los Angeles Lakers’ LeBron James, Golden State Warriors’ Stephen Curry, Phoenix Suns’ Kevin Durant and Philadelphia’s Joel Embiid are among the 11 players expected to travel to Paris, according to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Others on the roster include the Lakers’ Anthony Davis, the Suns’ Devin Booker, Boston guards Jayson Tatum and Jrue Holiday and Minnesota forward Anthony Edwards.

Team USA managing director Grant Hill and head coach Steve Kerr are keeping one roster slot open ahead of a July training camp and exhibition games in Las Vegas.

The galaxy of stars that are assembling are a response to Team USA failing to earn a medal at the 2023 FIBA World Cup. The team’s embarrassing showing in that tournament prompted – led by James – a number of star players to verbally commit to playing in Paris.

The group will bring plenty of experience in international competition.

James is playing in his fourth Olympics after capturing a gold medal in 2008 and 2012 and a bronze in 2004. Durant has won three golds. Tatum, Booker, Holiday, Davis and Miami’s Bam Adebayo have each won an Olympic gold medal playing for Team USA.

Even with this squad, winning gold in Paris won’t be easy.

France is expected to have rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama on the roster after capturing the silver medal in the 2020 Olympics. FIBA World Cup champions Germany will bring back nearly its entire roster. Serbia finished second at the World Cup without Nikola Jokic and Canada, who finished third in the World Cup, will be better if Jamal Murray joins the squad.
